FOUNDER PERSPECTIVE

What Consumer Financial Empowerment Means to Us

A clearer understanding. Better questions. More meaningful participation.

By Brian Holman · Founder & CEO, Dezota LLC

We describe WealthProof as a next-generation platform for consumer financial empowerment. That phrase carries a responsibility to explain what we mean. For me, empowerment begins when someone can look at information about their own financial life, understand more of what it says, and participate more meaningfully in the decisions around it. It should have a practical expression in the questions a person feels able to ask.

Those questions can be straightforward. What do I own? Why has an account’s value changed? How much of that change reflects money I added or withdrew? Which information is recent, and which reflects an earlier point in time? The answers may require more than one record, and some may remain incomplete. Helping someone recognize the difference between an answer and an assumption is part of making the information useful.

The financial reading that informs our thinking ranges from retirement income and changing family circumstances to investment costs and the uncertainty behind market forecasts. What connects these subjects is the need for context. A broad headline cannot account for every household, and a general illustration cannot settle an individual’s decision. Our role in building WealthProof is to help people examine their own information more clearly while keeping the scope and limitations of an analysis visible.

Clarity creates room for better questions.

That purpose also shapes how I think about design. An approachable overview matters, but people need a way to look more closely when something concerns them. A date, an explanation of a method, or a clearly identified gap can change how a result is understood. We want the experience to invite that curiosity and make the next question easier to ask. These are design goals guiding development, not a declaration that every capability is available today.

WealthProof is an analysis tool; it does not replace the institutions that hold a person’s accounts or serve as the authoritative record of those accounts. It is also not a financial advisor and does not provide personalized investment recommendations. I see its purpose as helping individuals better understand the information they bring to decisions and to conversations with qualified professionals. That is a substantial responsibility in its own right, and it requires care in how we explain our work.

As Dezota prepares for this next chapter, I want our culture to reflect the same expectations we bring to the product: listen carefully, distinguish evidence from inference, welcome questions, and correct mistakes. Executive leadership and technical architecture both require choices about what to emphasize and what to leave unresolved until there is better information. Being clear about those choices is part of the company I want to build.

WealthProof remains in research and development. As we prepare for launch, we will share more about supported capabilities and access when those details are ready. The direction is already clear: help people understand what their information can tell them, recognize what still needs attention, and explore possibilities with a clearer view of the assumptions involved. That is the meaning we want consumer financial empowerment to have in everyday use.
